Aftercare

The Aftercare Service has a duty to provide advice, guidance, and assistance to eligible young people aged 16 to 19 who are residents of West Lothian (or were when they were looked after) and are defined as care leavers.  These young people have previously been looked after at home or away from home up until their 16th birthday.  Aftercare also may provide advice, guidance and assistance to eligible young people aged 19 - 26 who are residents of West Lothian (or were when they were looked after) and are defined as care leavers.  Aftercare will also support young people under the age of 18 where they are eligible for compulsory financial support equal to the value of social security benefits.   Eligible young people are those who were looked after and accommodated away from home since their 14th birthday for more than 13 weeks.

The aim of Aftercare is to break down the barriers that prevent young people from moving into independence, employment, education or training and we work with other organisations to achieve this aim.
