Grants for Disabled People
If you are a homeowner a grant is available for adaptations to your home to enable your essential access to standard amenities.
This is administered via a Scheme of Assistance and there are certain conditions attached to this grant therefore please read all information relating to your application carefully. (See Scheme of Assistance FAQ in Related Documents).
Referral process for an Occupational Therapy Assessment
- A referral can be made by anyone
- You will receive confirmation of your request in writing and we aim to arrange an assessment visit to you within 6 weeks of your request.
- The process from assessment to completion of works will take approximately 3 to 4 months.
Assessment Process
A detailed assessment will be carried out by a member of the Occupational Therapy Service and options will be discussed to meet your needs. You will receive a copy of this assessment and if you have any queries you will be able to discuss these with the Occupational Therapist.
Scheme of Assistance (SoA) Process
If your adaptation requires SoA grant funding, the Occupational Therapist will seek authorisation for this request and make a recommendation on your behalf to the Grants section.
The Grants section will progress your application. They will require documentation to prove ownership of your property, along with quotes for the planned works and any architect's plans and building warrants required. Assistance in obtaining the necessary documentation is offered.
The SoA provides a grant of 80% of the cost of the recommended work. An additional 20% is available if the applicant is in receipt of certain benefits. (See Scheme of Assistance FAQ in Related Documents).
On completion of the agreed work, the Grants section will advise the Occupational Therapist who will check that the work meets your assessed need and may provide additional equipment to use with your adaptation.
