Alternative, Respite and Shared Care

Along with other organisations, we provide a number of services to support children with a wide variety of special needs and disabilities.

The Children With Disability Team accept referrals on children/young people who are aged between 0 and 16 years of age and who have a significant physical disability, learning disability or a sensory impairment that impacts on their ability to access opportunities available to non-disabled children. Please refer to the Child Disability Service page for more information.

We operate a number of accommodation units to provide residential care for children and young people who cannot remain at home.

These young people, aged between 12 and 18, are only placed in residential care following an assessment by a social worker and often only after a children's hearing decides that the child should be cared for by the council away from home.

Please refer to the Residential Care page for more information.
