Support and Advice for Families

Imprisonment of a family member can have a negative impact on family life and can lead problems with money and managing the home, relationship breakdowns, mental wellbeing, and other health issues.

There are a number of services available that can help people who have been affected by imprisonment.

Scottish Prison service

Has lots of information on where to get help, questions you may have around visiting, details about all the prisons services in Scotland. It also provides information on help for those affected by crime.

Sacro 

Provide a wide range of services spanning all aspects of community justice. These range from conflict resolution to prevent disputes escalating, to supporting prisoners on release. The organisation works with a broad range of people, including those harmed by crime and those responsible for that harm. The website has a very useful advice page and search facility.

Families Outside

Is the only national charity in Scotland that works solely on behalf of families affected by imprisonment. They offer direct support to families via a Helpline and Regional Family Support Coordinators.

Circle 

Support mothers and fathers at risk of imprisonment and pre and post release from prison and their families in the community.

Run the prison visitor service in Addiwell Prison.
