Short-Term Wheelchair Loan

From July 2023 the Red Cross in Scotland stopped providing a short-term wheelchair hire service.

If a wheelchair is required to support someone in West Lothian for a short period (maximum period of six months) for any of the following criteria, a free loan of a wheelchair can be provided from West Lothian Health & Social Care Partnership.

Short Term Loan Criteria:

• To support a person who is end of life
• To facilitate hospital discharge
• To prevent hospital admission
• Support recovery from surgery or provide support to those temporarily non-weight bearing following illness
• To support those waiting for a permanent wheelchair provision from wheelchair services

For anyone currently receiving treatment they should speak to their Health Care Professional who will be able to order a wheelchair through the Community Equipment Store.
