Self Directed Support: What is self-directed support?

What is Self Directed Support?

Self Directed Support is how social care is arranged and delivered in Scotland. It is intended to support and protect the human rights and independent living of all care and support users. It is there to ensure that any care and support we provide is delivered in a way that supports an individual's choice and control, meets their assessed needs and fulfils their desired outcomes.

Self directed support has 4 options:

  1. Option 1 - Direct payment - you can receive a payment which will let you organise your own support.
  2. Option 2 - Directing your support - you can select a provider and the support in a way that suits you best to meet your agreed outcomes.
  3. Option 3 - Support organised for you - you can ask your worker to decide with you what support you need and the we will arrange it on your behalf.
  4. Option 4 - Mix and match - you can choose to have a mix of the above options for different types of support..
