Assessment and Ordering

Continence Products are prescribed following assessment by the Continence Care Service.

Assessment Route

Step 1

Make an appointment with your GP to discuss symptoms.

 

Step 2

Your GP will refer you to the District Nursing Team or your Health Visitor/School Nurse to arrange an assessment.

 

Step 3

You will undertake an assessment. After this, your specialist can arrange for a trial with recommended products.

 

Step 4

You will begin receiving your deliveries as discussed with your specialist. Details of this for each product type are given on this page.

Absorbent Products

When will I receive my first delivery?

Once assessment and trial are completed, you will receive a phone call or text to advise which day you will receive your first order. Products are calculated on daily usage and you will receive a delivery to last you for 8 weeks.

 

Who will deliver my continence pads?

Your continence pads will be delivered by NHS Lothian Transport. The driver will carry identification at all times. Products will be delivered in discreet packaging.

 

When will I receive my next delivery?

Each delivery contains enough pads to last a minimum of 8 weeks. In order to receive further deliveries, you or someone acting on your behalf will need to contact the Continence Delivery Service to arrange your next delivery. You can re-order from 6 weeks onwards after your last delivery; this will allow the maximum of 2 weeks to process and deliver your order.

When will I receive my first order?

Once assessment is completed by Nurse and order received at the Service, you will receive a phone call to ask for your pharmacy preference. Your first order will be sent to the Pharmacy and you should allow a few days for the order to be prepared and ready for collection by pharmacist. Some Pharmacies provide a delivery service please discuss any delivery arrangements with your pharmacy.

Products are calculated on daily usage and your order will contain enough products so as to last you for 12 weeks.

 

How do I place my next order?

Repeat orders are arranged on a 12-week cycle, you or someone acting on your behalf will need to contact the Continence Delivery Service to arrange your next delivery. You can re-order from 11 weeks onwards after your last delivery; this will allow the maximum of 1 week for the store and pharmacy to process and prepare ready for collection or delivery.

 

If you find that your products are no longer suitable, contact your District Nurse or Health Visitor/School Nurse for reassessment.
